Housing Stability & Homelessness Prevention

We help seniors stay housed and explore options.

Our housing stability and homelessness prevention services are intended to help you remain stably housed and to plan for transitions when a move or change in living situation may be necessary. Navigators provide referrals to legal aid, rental assistance programs, tenant-rights organizations, and home-modification resources. We also assist with exploring the continuum of housing options—from aging-in-place supports through senior housing and assisted living—when such a transition is under consideration. All support is provided at no cost and is confidential.

Types of Housing Support We Help With

Eviction Prevention & Tenant Rights

For individuals who may be at risk of displacement—whether due to nonpayment of rent, a lease-related matter, or a landlord-tenant dispute—we provide information regarding your rights under California and local law and facilitate referral to:

  • Legal aid and eviction defense services (e.g., local legal services, tenant rights hotlines)
  • Notice and timeline requirements under California and local law
  • Rent repayment plans and negotiation support where applicable

Rental Assistance & Subsidies

Programs that can help with rent arrears or ongoing affordability:

  • County and city rental assistance programs
  • Section 8 / Housing Choice Vouchers (application and portability)
  • Senior-specific housing subsidies and waitlist navigation

Safe & Accessible Housing

Staying in your home safely as you age:

  • Repairs and habitability issues (landlord obligations, code enforcement)
  • Home modification and accessibility resources (ramps, grab bars, etc.)
  • Referrals to area agencies on aging and in-home support programs

Senior Housing & Care Options

When you're considering a move to supported housing:

  • Senior apartments and affordable senior housing (income-qualified)
  • Board-and-care and residential care facilities
  • Assisted living and memory care (information and referral; we do not place)
  • Coordinating with benefits and transportation so your new situation remains affordable and accessible
